Basic Logic:
Skills:
Proverb Intake:
"The World is rotten. The rotten should die."
"Like I said before, people are foolish and two-faced."
As opposed to L, Light perceives justice as a means in itself; in his view, 'correct' intent, lead to 'correct' result. Even though this is not always the case, Light's preconceived standards of righteousness usually lies on the intent; if he has to bear the burden of killing off the criminals to make the world a better place, so be it. Thus to him, killing those he considers wrong in the world is the right thing to do.
But it is within his delusions that creates staggering conflict; within Light's surprisingly narrow mind, there are many controversies that question his 'right morals'. Recounting the fallacies:
So is Light just a one-track, filthy hypocrite with a horrible God-complex? One can say so, but it'd just be too one-sided, wouldn't it? I decided to explore and see if it's possible to perceive Light as more of a 'protagonist'.
(+) An obvious defense would be the Death Note itself. It is the manifestation of temptation, the 'apple' of Christianity's Original Sin [I thank my knowledge to my philosophy course]. It is because of the Death Note, Kira was born.
Prior to the encounter of the Death Note, Light was rather pessimistic about the world (and is it just me, or did the anime wanted to shove all this religion in to compensate?). But even with
that mindset, it can be assumed that he never really expressed his hatred with violence.
[A perfect kid's gotta set a good example, right?]
And if he was truly evil, he would have already been some established psycho killer on a rampage even before obtaining the note.
In my opinion, with his intellect, he could even pull off killing all the criminals by other means if he wanted to.
Thus tainted with the note, and driven by his ambitions that he so strongly held onto, served to him as a double-edged sword:
-Probably one of the most 'sincere' [God-complex-less] phrases from the corrupt Light I've witnessed. It is his beliefs that are so utterly warped, because he was granted such powers to kill. In Light's agenda, he was trying to show humanity its potentials; he tried to show that humans could better themselves. To him, it was all about good intent and good will more than anything else.
And most logically speaking, if there was no Death Note to begin with, Light would just continue living daily his life, no egotistical God-complex nor mass murdering involved.

:: Personal Insight [aka Spamful Rants] ::
Light... Boy, oh boy... Light's one heck of a party. I will admit, at first I hated him, I hated him like a mofo, because a character with a God-compex did not at all, amuse me. He may have had the intelligence, but so did L (if that didn't mean a thing, then Near it is!). To me, Light lacked any likeable traits; he did not have the quirks like L, nor the random, annoying cuteness like Misa or even the fun-factor Ryuk had. If anything, he laughed a lot. [Although in the anime, they make him a lot more sinister, that's for sure.] Anyway, my hate just continually built up, but then it managed to skewer itself into a love-hate relationship, and then... semi-love. How? When he became temporarily 'good'. o_o
I know, the Light without the Death Note seemed all blah, but hey, my favourite arc is the Yotsuba arc. The three kiddies just seemed to glorify eachother, and that raised my liking toward them. [I told you, I'm a sucker for these kind of 'oh, we're best friends' relationship!] Light wasn't spouting "I AM JUSTICE!!!" 24/7, and hey, he's still smart, with or without the Death Note [just a little crazier with the Death Note... make it a hell lot crazier]. Although I do admit... he makes the series very interesting when he does possess the Death Note. Sure, he may come off as a self-delusional heartless bastard, but I think that Light's done a job well done in the 'evil' department, to have so many people dislike him. That's a sign of a good villain... well, if you consider him one, of course.
BUT ZOMFG, HE MADE REM KILL L?!!111 Yes, yes he did. It's set up like that, so he gets what's coming to him in the end; an 18-year old child who looks like he regresses in age as the years go on. To foil his plan and blow it up in front of his face and of those who 'trust' him, and then having the one who misfortunately granted him such powers to kill him- the ultimate humiliation. I find it rather amazing when Light went hysterical to the point where it's sad: talking your way out of jail? Nice try. Seriously believing you can write Near's name in less than a second? Hilarious. It's like OLD BOY, but without the tongue-cutting part. And it is for the fact that you can bring such a seemingly well-respected, arrogant character down to his knees like that... I felt the sympathy. I seriously did. Light dying in such pathetic humiliation has increased my liking for him [this goes for L as well, the death part, I mean... I don't think he was humiliated when he died X_x], call me evil or not, I don't care.
Besides, I blame the Death Note for his evil persona. Even if he admits that he thinks bad people deserve to die... don't we all? He just had the means that corrupted him, and took it into another horrendous level by actually doing it... crazy ol' Light... Kira... L-Kira... and the synonymous Near has given him.
But since I know Light isn't as loveable as L, and possibly Ryuk, I've came up with the 'Defend Light' game. Giving you some pointers to see him in another light... horrible unintentional pun, forgive me, please. So let the Defend Light Game begin:
1] He's the flippin' main character! If he had the position of L in the beginning and he was trying to catch another Kira, then it'd be boring, because then there'd be no L!!
...How did this digress into a rant about Matt..?
------
...I rest my case.
I'll make an interesting page for Light... I just don't know what to put at the moment [sorry!]
